BQ: Boys Quarter | What do you know about it?

BQ simply means Boys’ Quarter.

But do you know there are 2 types of Boys’ Quarters.

(1) Detached Boys’ Quarter: 
Means Boys’ Quarter that is standing on it own, not attached to the main building. It is usually at the back of the main building within the same compound.

Nowadays most developers don’t build this kind of Boys Quarter again. Detached Boys Quarter is always built by individual client/landlord.

(2) Tucked in Boys’ Quarter/Attached Boys’ Quarter: 

This is the type of Boys’ Quarter that is attached to the main building at the back. It is not standing alone.

Most cases the person at the boys quarter cannot enter the main building from the back. Because there is always no access door that connect the boys quarter (BQ) to the main building. If at all there is an access door, is always locked from the main building and is rarely open except occasionally.

Tucked in/Attached Boys’ Quarter is what most developers are building nowadays. This is what you will see in most of our already built houses e.g Creek Avenue Court, Eli Court, Daniel Gardens, Bella Homes and PP Estates.

NOTE: Some modern block of flats/apartments now have attached Boys Quarters (BQ) at the back of each flat. There is always another stair case at the back that connect to the Boys Quarters. Example is our PP Estate at Guzape Asokoro District Abuja.

Most guest rooms within the main building can be converted to Boys Quarters by blocking or locking the internal door of the guest room and creating new door at the back of that room.

House maids, drivers, security guard and sometimes visitors always stay at Boys Quarters (BQ). Some house owners/landlords do rent out their Boys Quarters for Rental Income too.
